About This Route

In einem Hochbuchenwald erhebt sich eine ungefähr zwanzig Meterhohe Felswand aus Travertin, die das Reich des »Kakus« beherbergt. Der Riese »Kakus« soll hier einst gewohnt haben und daher trägt die Kartsteinhöhle heute noch seinen Namen. Die Kakushöhle ist eine Kalksteinhöhle mit mehreren Nebenhöhlen. In dieser nachweisbarältesten Wohnstätte von Menschen im Rheinland konnten bei mehreren Ausgrabungen Reste von Urwerkzeuge nund Waffen sowie Knochenresteausgestorbener gefunden werden.
