Genießer Mountainbikestrecke Krumpen - Abbrenn

Description: Start: Wildalpen village or at the Karin´s Stub´n snack station, and the cycling route LI 3 passes through an aqueduct of the II Vienna High-Source Water Pipeline until the turnoff to Krumpenalm.

The gourmet mountain bike route Krumpen - Abbrenn begins at the turnoff. A forest road (gravel) now leads to the lovely, primitive, gentle Krumpenalm; then it climbs steeper and offers views of Riegerin, Grießstein, Ebenstein in the Hochschwab mountains and also Kräuterin in the Ybbstal Alps.

At about the highest point at Klammsattel, the road then leads long and gently downhill to Abbrenn. Here you catch glimpses of the last remaining primeval forest and the views look into the Dürrenstein Wilderness Reserve. You reach a fairly traditional and original forest house in a very rustic area.

A few more curves along the forest road and you end up very remote at the junction in Schneckengraben and return to the cycling route LI 3 (rather no mobile reception). However, the gourmet mountain bike route Krumpen - Abbrenn does not end at the starting point.

The mountain bike route is signposted in both directions.

Mountain bikers choose as they continue whether to ride back the climb via Hühnermauer again on the cycling route LI 3 or the easier, longer variant via Fachwerk back or extend the route on the conventional road into Rotwald.

Route description: Mostly gravel and forest road.

Highest point: 1,014 m Destination: Schneckengraben (rather no mobile reception) / Wildalpen

Tips: You can extend the mountain bike route into a circular tour if you go via Hühnermauer.

Arrival to Wildalpen: From Vienna: A1 West motorway exit Ybbs via Wieselburg, Scheibbs and Lunz/See to Göstling an der Ybbs then onwards towards Palfau, at the Erzhalden junction turn to Wildalpen.

From Vienna, Eisenstadt: Semmeringschnellstraße S6, near Mürzzuschlag onto B23 Mariazeller Federal Road and Mürzsteg and Wegscheid to Gusswerk and on to Hochschwab Federal Road B24 to Wildalpen

Parking In Wildalpen village or at the Karin´s Stub´n snack station.

Arrival from Wildalpen: Cross the camping site bridge, pass Camping Wildalpen and turn left into Hopfgarten, then continue towards Hühnermauer to the Karin´s Stub´n snack station (approx. 2.8 km).
