About this route

The '6 Springs Trail', with its 6 wonderfully refreshing springs, is a great circular bike route for hot summer weather. The springs are almost evenly spaced along the entire 30 km route. The starting point is the large EDEKA parking lot in Niederfüllbach, where you can park your car at the rear. The trail consists of about 30% asphalt, 50% forest and forestry roads, and about 20% unpaved paths. There are also 3 easy trails included. The first section along the B4 to Großheirath is unfortunately a bit monotonous and noisy, but a popular route among many bikers. We ride under the B4 at the Großheirath/Buchenrod intersection, pass the Großheirath church, then head towards Altenbanz to the first spring: the 'Hundsbrunnen'. It is recommended to refill water bottles here, as from now on the trail steadily climbs, from slight to moderate elevation. Continuing through Birkach am Forst and Obersiemau to the 2nd spring: the 'Stegnersbrunnen'. Here we finally leave paved roads. We continue along the forest edge with a great view into the Main valley, including the Staffel- and Veitsberg. Then under the A73 near Buch am Forst through the 'Buch Gate' to the 3rd spring: the 'Schifferbrunnen'. Not far away, the trail paths lead to the 4th spring: the 'Mönchsbrunnen', by far the most beautifully located spring, accessible only on foot or by bike. Unfortunately, the path there is a dead end, so we have to return to the forestry road from which we came. Now heading north, passing the traditional 'Bucher Pflanzkerwa' (held annually on the first weekend in July!), near the A73 towards the 'Wallenbrunnen'. From there, we head back home, going under the A73, solely through forest above the ICE railway to the 6th spring: the 'Leopoldsbrunnen'. A personal TIP: every Sunday around 10:55 am, the two ICE trains from Munich and Berlin meet here! A unique sight! Then a short stretch through forest and fields, passing the new residential area of Niederfüllbach back to the EDEKA parking lot.
