Szarvas - Nagyszénás - Kondoros

On this route near Szarvas, you can explore places that perhaps even the locals don't really know, or at least are regularly left out from lists of local attractions. Starting from Szarvas, riding on the low-traffic Orosháza road (a bike path is under construction) on a decent quality asphalt, passing by beautiful ancient meadows and mixed croplands all year round, you reach Nagyszénás. It's a neat village with several stopping and resting opportunities. At the roundabout in the village center, turn left towards Kondoros (the road is very pothole-ridden). After leaving a sand quarry, Kiscsákó can be seen far left, specifically the tower of the Geiszt hunting castle designed by Miklós Ybl (if I didn't know what it was, I'd definitely mistake it for a church). I don't think it's visitable in its current (under restoration) state, but I'll check it out more closely next time. A kilometer later on the right side of the road, you can spot Geiszt Csákó, where there is also a castle. The road leading to the monument can only be discovered by going far past it, and if I saw correctly, there is no signposting. In Kondoros, the road leads straight to the famous Csárda, with a park, square, fountain, and pastry shop (there's also beer!). You leave Kondoros via what they call a bike path next to main road 44, consisting of concrete slabs laid with a negligent elegance, and throughout the ride you can enjoy a great 'kidney stone crusher' experience. In Kardos, turning right towards Örménykút, you can expect 3 km of silence on gently rolling asphalt. On the outskirts of Örménykút, on the left side, there's an easily noticeable mound accessible from the farm row, a great spot for panoramic photos. The village also operates a "retiree liquefaction institution", uncomfortable but with a wild garden area and a billiard table. Leaving the village and turning left, the cheerful tourist can test their endurance on the notorious "Berényi" road. I swear, a bus goes there, I saw one coming the other way (I was convinced that for some EU reason there are bus stops on the roadside and then a bus actually came?!). So, it's pure macadam. A few kilometers from Szarvas it's quite passable. Otherwise, it's a beautiful countryside, cut by old riverbeds, with wooded mounds that can be seen. You arrive back to Szarvas on a very nice bike path from the industrial park side (I was a child when it was built, back then riding was straightforward). In summary: you can find unexplored sights around here, and this circuit (or part of it) is rideable and enjoyable even with amateur gear, in its own wild romantic way.
