Ditchelbacher Rad-MTB Kurzstrecke 2008

Brief explanation of the route: The start was at the sports field in Dichtelbach. From there, the course followed a small introductory lap (counterclockwise) around Dichtelbach and then back to the sports field. After the introductory lap, the route ascended again on the asphalt road; however, instead of turning left over the fields/down to the houses as in the introductory lap, it turned right into the forest just before that junction. A few short climbs followed, then a longer fast descent, followed by a really long climb up to the wind turbines on the Kandrich. There was an aid station at the wind turbines on the Kandrich. From Kandrich, the route continued relatively flat towards Salzkopf. Here, two shorter trails led further towards Franzosenkopf, marking the completion of the major elevation gains. From there, the route was mostly downhill, though a few more elevation gains occurred further along. On the wide forest road downhill, you could pick up good speed, as well as on the asphalt road near the meadows at 'Hirtenborn'. Upon reaching the asphalt road at Dichtelbach, the route did not go straight down to the sports field but rather turned right, now coming from the opposite direction, along the section of the introductory lap (over the fields down to the houses) and then to the start/finish at the sports field. The route should be doable in under 2 hours. ;) The technical difficulty is low and the route is only minimally prone to mud. Schwalbe Racing Ralph tires were more than sufficient. The route can be followed as described, except for the 50 meters directly over the grass of the sports field. The short route did not cross private property.

Note: The paths are mostly well rideable. Still, keep your eyes open!
