About this route

0

The trail starts in Přibyslav (49.5694853N, 15.7490725E) and follows a romantic route along the old railway line for almost 9 kilometres, passing through the picturesque surroundings of the biocorridor by the upper Sázava River, in the typical landscape of the Vysočina region — woods, fields, and rocky cliffs. The cycle path is suitable for cycle tourists, inline skaters, wheelchair users, walkers, and in winter is used by cross-country skiers. There are two large rest areas along the route, equipped with benches, tables, simple shelter, and bike stands. Information panels along the way describe details of the trail, the surrounding villages, and the history of the railway line. The new cycle path is three metres wide and, apart from a few atmospheric wooden bridges, is fully surfaced with asphalt. The trail is flat, making it suitable even for young beginner cyclists.

You can detour from the path to the ruins of Ronov nad Sázavou Castle (49.5703392N, 15.7713108E), which survive only as remains today. The castle was built at the beginning of the 14th century by Smil of Ronov, a descendant of the Ronovec family from North Bohemia. The first written mention is from 1329; in the 16th century the castle was abandoned. It is located about a kilometre from Ronov nad Sázavou and 3 kilometres east of Přibyslav.

In the district of Žďár nad Sázavou, tourists can visit the Sázava natural swimming area (49.5548453N, 15.8762072E), which has a sandy beach and waterslide. There's catering, accommodation in mobile homes, ping pong, futnet, and volleyball courts.

Also worth a stop is Šlakhamr, also known as Brdíček's Mill (49.5661408N, 15.8785378E). Here, visitors can explore an exhibition on medieval ironworking in the restored original hammer mill building from the early 15th century. The water wheels and hammer are still functional. After its last private owners, the Brdíček family, the site is now run by the Technical Museum in Brno.

From the mill, it's only five kilometres to Žďár nad Sázavou. One of the town's most interesting sights is the pilgrimage church of St. John of Nepomuk at Zelená Hora (49.5802067N, 15.9419319E), listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994. The church was built in the Baroque Gothic style, primarily to honour John of Nepomuk as a powerful patron and saint. Until recently, the building was surrounded by a tall pine forest, which has now been cleared to restore its original visibility from afar. It is regarded as the most original work of the Czech architect of Italian descent Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel.
