Ústecký kraj II: Cyklotrasa - Litoměřice

Today's bike trip takes us from the picturesque North Bohemian town of Litoměřice along the Elbe River all the way to Terezín. We will ride 23 kilometers on easy terrain, mostly following the Elbe Cycle Route. Part of the way is on a minor road with light traffic.

We will park the car at the parking lot on Střelecký Island in Litoměřice. Quickly, we head onto the Elbe Trail – cycle route number 2 – along the right bank of the river. There, we cover some five kilometers of asphalt bike path, turning into a dirt road. This leads us to the village of Křešice, which has just under 1,500 residents. In Křešice, we'll pass by the Church of St. Matthew.

Cycle route number 2 continues to Nučnice along road II/261, but we'll avoid this section and take an unsigned detour, first on a dirt trail, later on asphalt. Part of the route is along the Křešická výprava educational trail. We'll arrive at the Nučnice motel and rejoin cycle route 2, from which after 500 meters we reach the ferry across the river. Using the ferry, we'll cross to the other bank of the Elbe, where Nučničky is located.

In Nučničky, there is a snack bar with outdoor seating, perfect for a rest and refreshment. The view of the river is also well worth it. We then get onto cycle route 2A, which takes us by a quiet road through Počaply and České kopisty to Terezín. On arriving in Terezín, we pass the Small Fortress and Terezín Memorial on the left, and the Terezín car museum on the right.

Soon we reach an intersection, turn right, cross the Ohře, and enter the Main Fortress of Terezín. After crossing the river, we turn left and enter the inner area of the fortress through the upper water gate, where several museums are located. Following route 2A, we leave Terezín, skirt the golf course, and return to Litoměřice.

On the way back, we ride about a kilometer on the main road, where the cycle route is marked. We cross Tyrš Bridge to the right bank of the Elbe. We can visit Litoměřice's historic center and then return to Střelecký Island.
