Cyklotrasa Toulavou z Kamýku nad Vltavou na Monínec

The area around the Vltava and the Czech Siberia seems made for a cycling trip, with beautiful places and lesser-known landmarks to explore. Cyclists will be treated to breathtaking stone walls and the surrounding hills, which are demanding but manageable for everyone.

You can look forward to a 40-kilometre route, classified as moderately difficult due to its elevation profile, with a ride time of about three hours. The route offers many landmarks and, in the case of a summer trip, several opportunities for refreshment. Together with Deník, we have planned the entire route for you here.

The trip starts in Kamýk nad Vltavou at the ruins of Vrškamýk Castle (49.6401414N, 14.2380219E), continues a few hundred metres to the lookout tower near the castle (49.6404233N, 14.2430886E), from where you have a wonderful view of the surrounding landscape. From there, you descend down to the Vltava, cross the bridge, and climb the next substantial hill to another viewpoint (49.6391281N, 14.2659911E). Once you have admired the view of the Vltava valley, continue until you reach the intersection with cycle route 111 (49.6362675N, 14.2724506E). Follow it towards Brzina, past Svatý Ján to Třebnice (49.6512597N, 14.3592683E), and then onwards to Solopysky (49.6539003N, 14.3848481E). Along the way you can discover sights in villages and picturesque corners of the countryside.

You can refuel on the main square in Sedlčany, which features the beautifully renovated town hall (49.6581569N, 14.4249556E), and right next door is a patisserie and restaurant. Those interested in the region's history can visit the Sedlčany Town Museum on the other side of the street, offering historical and interesting temporary exhibitions.

From Sedlčany, the bike route leads you to Červený Hrádek (49.6588528N, 14.4532875E). Although not open to the public, the chateau impresses with its majesty, beautiful red colour, and shaded park setting. Its current pseudo-Gothic look is the work of renowned architect Jan Kotěra, inspired by Art Nouveau. After 1948, the chateau was nationalised and used as a museum and archive. After 1989, it was returned to its original owners. The romantic atmosphere is enhanced by the castle park with a pond. Around the chateau, you can spot remnants of the old fortifications. Currently, only the castle park—beautifully maintained and interesting—is accessible; the interior is only open during special events. There is also a bike repair shop on site if you need to fix a breakdown (49.6584664N, 14.4472933E).

The trail continues through charming countryside, typical of Toulava, full of stone walls and erratic boulders. If you take a slight detour from the main route, you can go all the way to Kosova Hora—which is well worth it. Here you can also refresh, and admire the chateau from outside (49.6537058N, 14.4732294E). From Kosova Hora, head to Dohnalova Lhota (49.6406542N, 14.4625728E), then along the 11 Greenway through picturesque villages to Sedlec–Prčice.

Sedlec-Prčice is the destination of the popular Prague–Prčice walk and definitely worth a visit. If you have time, visit Prčice's main square (49.5775689N, 14.5404944E), enjoy some food at one of the restaurants, and take a look at the historic centre.

From Sedlec-Prčice, it's just a short way to Monínec (49.5495256N, 14.5216578E), where you will find refreshments, a variety of sports activities, relaxation, and good coffee. If you want more, the surrounding hills offer a taste of adrenaline.
