Jakobsweg Etappe 3 Gray - Cluny

Along the Saône and Doubs rivers to Chalôn, from Saint-Jean-de-Losne on the Way of St. James to Cluny.

The first part is mostly very flat on low-traffic roads through meadows and fields in the Saône river valley. The only notable climb is just before Cluny: it gets a bit steeper – up to 17% at the end.

It is easier to follow the voie verte, a disused railway line, from St Genoux-le-National to Cluny. This route is noticeably flatter. The voie verte is well signposted.

For the most part, the route to Gray runs along low-traffic roads. The only bottleneck is the crossing over the Saône and motorway bridges in Chalon, which should be avoided if possible during rush hours.
