Cserháttól a Mátráig (és onnan vissza...)

Physically not too difficult, an asphalted tour, but it also touches busy roads. I cycle it in 3 and 3/4 hours with a mountain bike.

An interesting feature of this route, which passes through Nógrád and Heves counties, is that at the beginning we can face the Mátra mountains, then on the way back we can admire the peaks of the Cserhát. Additionally, there is the Zagyva river, which we cross twice.

Road quality: only bad between main road 21 and Szarvasgede, elsewhere good.

Minor hazards:

• During the tour you have to cross main road 21 twice: first at Jobbágy, then on the return at the Apca junction.

• There is heavy traffic in Selyp; at the Zagyvaszántó intersection it's advisable to turn in front of the big store, then exit to Szántói road.

• From Selyp to Szarvasgede there is significant truck traffic (3-truck convoys may overtake us).

• We cross railway tracks several times.

A good thing is that between Petőfibánya and Selyp you can ride on bike paths for about 2-3 km.
