BahnRadweg Hessen

The highlight: it connects local cycle paths that were created on former railway lines. Its name: BahnRadweg Hessen. It stands for enjoyable cycling through varied landscapes on finely asphalted cycle paths away from traffic. The idea was to link the Vulkanradweg on the route of the former Oberwaldbahn in Vogelsberg with the Milseburgradweg in the Rhön. The result is a cycle path signposted from Hanau to Bad Hersfeld, which can also be ridden back on a mostly alternative route. From Hanau to Bad Hersfeld, that's 245 km, or 400 km as a circular tour through wonderfully scenic landscapes. Other railway cycle paths in the Ulster and Solz valleys as well as along the former Vogelsberg Südbahn are also included. <br />History is offered not only by the railway lines, where cyclists now glide through tunnels, but also by many remarkable towns along the route. Besides Hanau and Bad Hersfeld as start and end points, the Barbarossa town of Gelnhausen, the half-timbered gem Lauterbach, and the cathedral city of Fulda are particularly worthwhile visiting.
