Kolínsko – There is nothing better than on a beautiful day being able to go out into nature and also admire monuments and remember a bit of history. Sounds like an enticing combination? Then you can join us for a ride of about fifteen kilometers around Kolín. It's an easy route and although we will ride a bit through the terrain, there are no significantly steep hills waiting for us. Recreational athletes can handle the cycling route very well. Our cycling pilgrimage begins at the Kolín Waterworks. The building originally supplied water to the then settlement, albeit much smaller. After many years of neglect, the city managed to raise funds for its renovation and conversion into an observation tower. If we decide to climb the stairs to the top of the water tower, a landscape will unfold before us like in the palm of our hand. We can admire the panoramas of Kolín, the information boards around the windows always bring us closer to what lies in which direction. As we admire, we can refresh ourselves in the park around the waterworks and get back in the saddle of our bike. We'll set off along the bike path toward Výfuk, at the end of the bike path we'll turn right and after a few meters left. However, we turn very carefully, the intersection is not among the most straightforward. We will reach a dog park, where dog owners train their four-legged pets in various skills. At the same time, this point marks the beginning of the Štítarské Valley, through which a nature trail runs. This is precisely where we are heading, as our path goes through it. After a few meters, we will encounter information boards of the local nature trail, which will bring us closer to the local fauna, flora, and educate us about water resources. It's also interesting that along the way we will encounter a smaller bike park with dirt obstacles named Komár. We will continue down the road and a view of the Štítarské football fields will open up before us. Carefully, we will descend to it over the local creek. Indeed, we will see the statue of Miloš Fišera, a former Czechoslovak representative in cyclo-cross. Then we return back to the road and ride through forest terrain. The trees will provide us with shelter from the sun if high temperatures prevail. If we need to rest or drink, we have options at several benches along the way. Soon, however, we will reach the end of the Štítarské Valley and before us will be a road with a sign to Zibohlavy. But we will turn right toward Radovesnice. Here we are faced with a gentle hill with an ascent. When we reach its end, we will turn left, go further uphill, and turn right toward Radovesnice. Here we will pass the wall of the local castle and continue down the road. In a moment we will arrive at a field, in front of which is a monument to a fallen soldier. It reminds of an unfortunate incident where a fighter plane crashed nearby and its pilot died here. Here we will stop and dedicate a minute of silence in his memory. Continuing along the asphalt road, we will reach Křečhůr. We will pass through the village and orient ourselves according to the signs towards the memorial that commemorates the battle of Kolín. It occurred in 1757 and involved the troops of Prussian King Frederick II and the Austrian army of Leopold Daun. We will examine the memorial and take a moment to regain our strength. Then we will have to return a bit along the same way back to the beginning of Křečhůr. Instead of continuing to the right, where we arrived, we will turn left, where we will take a dirt road back to Štítary near Kolín. We will pass through them, as well as the area at Výfuk, and return back to the bike path at the Waterworks. If we did not visit the tower at the beginning of our journey, we have the opportunity; alternatively, we can sit in the shade of the trees in the local park before heading back home from our cycling trip.
