Cycling along Bavaria's romantic rivers

Location. Off to Bavaria! The organized cycling tour led through a special part of Bavaria along the river courses of Vils, Naab, Danube, Altmühl, and Pegnitz. Apart from some climbs on the last and second-to-last day, the route was flat or slightly hilly, on bike paths and roads with little or no motor traffic.

The journey to Amberg was by bus with a bike trailer. Before the tour for the "pedal knights" began, the old house facades, splendid churches, and proud buildings impressed during the city walk.

From Amberg, the entry point was on an old railway line - along the Vils - from Kallmütz on the Naabtal bike path to Regensburg. After the city tour, the route continued along the Danube to Kelheim. Kelheim is known for the confluence of the Danube and Altmühl. The boat trip through the Danube gorge and the visit to the Klosterschenke Weltenburg was a must.

The next stage led from the medieval Berching, along the old King Ludwig Canal, through the Upper Palatinate to Nuremberg. Crossing the "European watershed" into the drainage area of the Main. Of course, there was also an extensive city tour and the castle towering over the city. Along the Pegnitz, through the charming town of Lauf, the route led to Hersbruck before the seven-day journey ended in Amberg. As high summer conditions prevailed on all days, this trip will remain in the memory of the 21 participants for a long time.
