Sandberg Großschweinbart

The tour takes us on agricultural roads over the B46 bypass and onward to the Sylvaner cycle path. Afterwards, we cross the A5 and arrive at Schrick. We pass through the village on Josef-Weiland-Strasse and follow the R5 to Gaweinstein. Continuing along the R5, we ride past the back of Kollnbrunn and reach Bad Pirawarth. Here we make a short stop at the open-air museum of Prof. Knesl. Hans Knesl, born in 1905 in Bad Pirawarth, was originally a stonemason before studying sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna in 1924. Almost all of Knesl's sculptures are cast in concrete. His sculptures stand in the former spa park of Bad Pirawarth. Here you can also find a drinking fountain. In the annex of the old spa house, there is now documentation and a historical insight into the former healing baths. We continue on and thus arrive at the new privately run spa centre at the edge of town. We follow the R5 further, where now three other cycle paths run in parallel (the R91, the Zweigelt cycle path and the Traminer cycle path). We pass by oil fields and soon reach Groß Schweinbarth. This market town lies in the gently descending hilly landscape of the Weinviertel. From afar, we already see the sprawling building of the Buschenschank Sandberg. At the station, we then turn left towards Sandberg. Now it's a steep climb up to the Heurigen inn, which is closed today. We sit down on a strip of grass and unpack our snack. From here, across the vineyards, we have a beautiful view down into the town. Refreshed, we bypass the vineyard and descend to the gravel cycle path. Back in Bad Pirawarth, after the spa clinic, we now turn right and follow the signs for the Traminer and Zweigelt cycle paths. This brings us to Klein Harras, and now we follow the R7 until we reach the wine village of Martinsdorf. We then ride, navigating with the GPS, back on agricultural roads to Schrick. From here, we return along the same route to our starting point.
