A route by the RadSportSenioren Rheinstetten.

The light rail takes us cheaply from Durmersheim to Schönmünzach. Then we continue on the Murgtal Cycle Path towards Baiersbronn. Originally, we planned to take the well-known route from Baiersbronn-Mitteltal up to Kniebis and return on the long-distance cycle trail to Rheinstetten. But sometimes plans change. Right after the Reichenbacher farms, we turned right and found ourselves in the beautiful Tonbach Valley. The landscape captivated us, simply wonderful here with good bike paths. We thought there must be a way up to the B500. And so it was, always following the signs to Ruhestein. At the Flößerhütte hut we took a short break, then passed Löchleshütte and Möhrleshütte, climbed Neuberg and Mehlplätze to Dreivierstein. On a good natural path, we continued over the elevations Schlangenkirch, Riesenköpfle, Stübleskopf, and Pfälzerkopf up to Seekopf. It features a raised bog area with typical plants. Up there, there is only a trail, and due to the stones, it is a dismount and push section for the bike. After a barrier, we followed the signs to Darmstädter Hütte, passing Eutin's grave. Below us lies the dark Wildsee lake, a magnificent view of the Black Forest landscape. From then on, we descend, passing Darmstädter Hütte to the rest stop at Seibelseckle. To go up to Mummelsee, we take the road, then continue almost parallel to the Black Forest High Road mostly downhill, passing Untersmatt, Hundseck, Sand, Rote Lache, until we roll to Nachtigall. The natural path is mostly good to very good (except for a section of about 2 km with large stones) for riding. From Nachtigall, we take the road downhill to Gernsbach. The well-known route via Gaggenau, Rotenfels, Bischweier, and Oberweier leads us through Malsch with a stop at Malscher Brauhaus by the station. Through Hardtwald and Durmersheim, we soon arrive back home in Rheinstetten.

A very scenic tour that can also be riding in midsummer. The forest mostly provides shade; the air at altitude is noticeably better than in the Rhine valley.

Ridden on 05.07.2010 by Peter, Klaus + Jürgen.

Measured values: route length 109 km; 1567 m elevation gain; uphill distance: 37.3 km; downhill distance 44.8 km; gradients moderate, not exceeding 10%
