About This Route

De Veluwe was van oorsprong een bosgebied. Niks nieuws, zul je misschien zeggen, maar door ontbossing in de Middeleeuwen ontstonden grote zandverstuivingen en zandduinen. Daardoor trokken mensen weg van de Veluwe en had de natuur er vrij spel. De 'eeuwenoude bossen' die je onderweg tegenkomt zijn pas ontstaan aan het einde van de 19e eeuw, toen men besloot om bomen aan te planten voor houtproductie. Daardoor werd de regio weer aantrekkelijk om er te gaan wonen, maar ook voor recreatie.
