IVB2 MTB Salzweg
A cycling route starting in Weinsberg, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany.
Overview
About this route
Official mountain bike route between Neckarsulm and Obersulm-Eschenau in the foothills of the Schwäbisch-Fränkischer Wald Nature Park.
This tour is part of a MTB tour concept in the Heilbronn district and includes an attractive portion of single trails. This and all other IVB MTB tours were approved and marked at the 'Round Table' of the Initiative for Responsible Biking (IVB) in close collaboration with the Heilbronn District Office, the city of Heilbronn, and the forest service.
Starting at the train station in Weinsberg, the ride begins by crossing the vineyards to Erlenbach and then climbing along the foot of the Geissberg to the playground behind Scheuerberg. Here the first single trails start before climbing once more up to the ridge. Now the historical Saltway Trail begins: for over 4 km, it runs mostly level towards the valley closure at Breitenauer Lake. The Saltway Trail is only briefly interrupted by a state road (Eberstadt - Cleversulzbach). Caution is advised here as the crossing is not well visible to drivers.
Upon reaching the lookout hut above Heuberg, the route continues on gravel paths until reaching the state road L1036 at the hiking parking lot 'Steinerner Tisch'.
Here another single trail begins, which only ends at the edge of the forest of Dimbach. The tour continues through the vineyards, over the highway bridge and through the town, culminating in a beautiful uphill single trail. At a rise on Verrenberg, the view extends far into the Hohenlohe plain.
Here begins another long single trail, which - at the end going downhill and briefly retracing along the Harry Murso Weg back up - leads to the edge of the forest at Eschenau. There, the Obersulm-Eschenau train station is reached. From here (the final point of the original route), one can then return to the starting point, about 10 km away, mostly on asphalted paths, slightly downhill.
