Beautiful road cycling route with challenging climbs, fast straights, and sharp, winding descents. The sections on federal roads are best ridden on Sundays and public holidays when traffic is lighter. The southern part of the route around Sonnenberg-Winnenberg to Idar runs along the Nahe cycle path, which becomes very narrow in places. Beware on days that attract family outings... and after rain/showers or autumn weather, as wet leaves in some spots can greatly increase braking distance :-) In the Hammerstein area, the road has some uneven patches, but these aren't a problem. All in all, a lovely route where you can put in a good pace if you want. Not just for solo riders but also suitable for groups.
