12-8-10 F.Vaqueros-Sierra Elvira-Olivares-Tiena-Coscojar-Casanueva (IBP: 79)

Moderate difficulty route (IBP: 79), partly on asphalt and mostly on dirt roads, with some short climbs but generally manageable. Perhaps the toughest parts are the climb to Sierra Elvira (though not very difficult) and the section from Tiena to Coscojar (mainly due to the heat in the area, a dry land among olive trees...). The most interesting sections are Sierra Elvira (especially descending towards the golf courses), a descent near Olivares, the descent from Coscojar down to Casanueva, and the cool poplar-lined path from Ánzola to the Fuente Vaqueros-Valderrubio road. There's an alternative to the marked route from Olivares to Tiena, a road-path that climbs quite steeply then descends, passing by a cemetery. It turns off to the right just after leaving Olivares. If you have the strength and want to test yourself, the slopes on this little road are ideal. Also, in summer it’s advisable to take advantage of the early morning hours, as the route can be hot overall. Several potable water fountains are marked along the way, notably the one at Coscojar, perfect for a good refreshment.
