Mezőtour 37

A small loop starting from Mezőtúr railway station, two-thirds of which is on low-traffic asphalt and concrete roads, except for a one and a half kilometer section of road number 46.

Starting from the station heading south, first you cycle between the mining lake (now a recreational area) and the beach. Soon after the statue erected in memory of the diggers who played a key role in the construction of the flood protection dikes, turn right and leave Mezőtúr.

You can cycle on low-traffic asphalt near the former site of Mezőtúr, which was once destroyed by the Tatar army.

Two kilometers before the loop section, turn left to aim for the embankment of the Hármas Körös river, where heading east you can admire the spectacular sights of Körös-Maros National Park: the wild floodplain that serves as the last refuge for many native species, the winding oxbows where you can rest, and with the proper permits, you can even fish. Note: this section of the route is an unpaved embankment crest, only passable with a road bike in dry weather; otherwise, trekking or mountain bikes are recommended.

Meanwhile, you reach the double lock above Hortobágy Berettyó, from where you can cycle along a concrete levee up to Peresi Tájház, where you can learn more about the surrounding landscape and its wildlife, and of course rest on a bench in the shade.

Turning north, you head back to Mezőtúr, making a small detour, as it is worth stopping by Tajti for a bambira. This eatery is located on the bank of the longest oxbow of the Körös river, in a really pleasant environment.

After a small refreshment, you can see the remains of the former kolkhoz from the previous system, then turn onto main road 46 and ride in single file back into Mezőtúr, where you can still see a few civilized attractions. And if you get hungry on the way, don't worry; the route passes several restaurants and pizzerias.

Practically without elevation difference, you can take a relaxed little tour; the only difficulty can be possible headwinds.
