Traces of the Wilderness (Squirrel Loop)

A labyrinth of forest roads and tracks through valleys and between them, up mountains and around them is marked or described in guides for mountain biking as Traces of the Wilderness. The routes, mostly following forest roads, tracks, and less trafficked, mainly gravel roads, are marked with wildlife footprints. The base, information, service, and accommodation cycling center is located at the Ekohotel Kmetija Koroš, with the starting point for most routes in the center of Črna na Koroškem.

The landscape at the junction of the Eastern and Central Alps is characterized by narrow mountain valleys with steep slopes interlaced with numerous forest roads, as forests cover nearly two-thirds of the area. Larger settlements are concentrated in the valley, while higher areas are characterized by isolated farms in clusters. Among the picturesque mountain valleys, Topla on the southern foothills of Pece stands out, protected as a landscape park due to its unique cultural landscape and natural environment.
