About This Route

This is the long route of the Medias Bike Marathon mtb race, held annually in medieval town of Medias, Romania. It's a tough trail of 75 km with almost 2000 m of climb. It's tough because it has a lot of short but steep climbs, with little time to rest in between. Most of the trail is through forests so there will be a lot of shade during hot summer days. Remember to have bear spray with you and whistle. You will be cycling through bear territory so it's good to make your presence known in advance. Also pay attention when passing near sheepfolds. These are guarded by usually aggressive shepherd dogs. For most, 75 km with 2000 m of climb is too much. If so, you can divide this trip into 2 days, spending the night at very nice guesthouses in one of the medieval villages such as Richis, Copsa Mare or Biertan.
