Corniolo-Ridracoli-La Lama-Corniolo

The route starts from Corniolo and partly retraces the classic loop Diga di Ridracoli-Foresta della Lama-San Paolo in Alpe – the official park guide itinerary ('In bici nel Parco - mtb17') – perhaps the most famous loop of all forests due to the extraordinary beauty of the places crossed and the consistently accessible terrain in almost all seasons. The route is technically easy but challenging because of the elevation gain.

The loop heads towards Santa Sofia, then turns right and, after a short climb to Vertorta, descends to Biserno and Ridracoli lake. Then it climbs again to Poggio alla Lastra, and at Passo del Vinco turns right onto the ridge passing Casanova dell'Alpe until reaching Paretaio. From here it descends towards La Lama, following the bike path (starting from Cancellino, near Passo dei Mandrioli) which many consider the most beautiful in Europe. Of extraordinary importance and beauty is the entire section after La Lama, which runs alongside the oldest nature reserve in Italy, Sasso Fortino (since July 2017 a UNESCO World Heritage Site). The route then climbs steadily to Poggio della Serra, then at the junction for San Paolo in Alpe turns left and soon arrives at Corniolo.

NOTE: the official track goes left towards Monte Grosso and the wonderful meadows of San Paolo in Alpe to reach Biserno and the Ridracoli dam.
