It is certain that you can access Thyon 2000 by a more direct route from Sion, but this route has the interest of crossing the site of the astonishing pyramids of Euseigne and also offering two decompression stops (see profile) to reach 2000m altitude. The last few kilometers towards Thyon 2000 are splendid, the road is wide and the forest more sparse; however, a cold shower upon arrival at the station: you come up against the grey entrance to an underground parking lot and the staircases leading to rental buildings deserted in summer. There is nothing to linger for, especially as the descent to Veysonnaz is most thrilling. Before returning to the plains, this route will still take you (well, putting in some effort on your part!) to Isérables: a small village clinging to the mountainside and formerly connected to the plains only by a mule track. Crossing Isérables today on our carbon mules, one has a bit the impression of seeing extraterrestrials in the mirror-like gaze of the locals.
