Overview

About this route

2

Switzerland, Basel - city ride, mainly through the historic part and along the Rhine River. In Basel, free parking is not possible, so we park in France in Huningue, which is basically an industrial area and suburb of Basel, on Rue Blochmont. We cycle into Switzerland through the border crossing into the city of Basel itself. Gradually, we ride through the city along the Rhine, enter the historic part of the city with very beautiful streets and houses. Interesting highlights include the Condomerie shop, the very beautiful archive building, the Basel monastery with an interesting basilica and cloister with tombstones and a garden above the Rhine, from where there is a wonderful view of the Rhine River. We pass through Spalenvorstadt street, at the end of which is the famous gate of the city fortifications, where trams no longer run. We cross a bridge over the Rhine, where there are very interesting and unusual sports boats, and on the right bank we reach the bridge with road and motorway tunnel, over which we cross again to the left bank of the Rhine and return back to France to the parked car.
