Kunstschilder Johan Barthold Jongkind grew up in the village of Lattrop. Along the way, you pass by various places where Jongkind lived during his younger years. You also cycle past the grounds of his parental home, which unfortunately was demolished some time ago. In honor of this painter, a special monument has been placed at the site of the parental home, the Jongkind Monument. Tip: walk into the little house to read everything about Jongkind's life. On the cycling route, you will pass by several mills: the Oortman mill, the Westerveld mill, and the watermills of Singraven. The first two are over 150 years old, making for a rich (residential) history. Besides the 'normal' mills, several watermills can also be viewed at the estate of Singraven. The Netherlands has already accomplished many impressive feats regarding water. One of them is the construction of the Schuivenhuisje to provide enough water to the river Dinkel. At junction 01, you will receive a notification to head towards the village of Lage. This village is just over the border from Germany. The starting and ending point of this cycling route is at the Kleinschalig Hotel Mössems, in the cozy Denekamp. Start refreshed after an overnight stay at the cozy hotel. Don’t forget to try a specialty of the tea house afterwards.
