About this route

Explorers, watch out! On the technology themed path in the south of the Duchy of Lauenburg, there is plenty to explore. Large power plants, unique technical structures, old monuments, and evidence of the long tradition of Elbe navigation are among the exciting destinations along the route.

Two circular tours are available: On the tour around Geesthacht (30 km), cyclists will learn about the construction of the lock, why Alfred Nobel invented dynamite in Geesthacht, and why the city is today the largest energy and research hub in northern Germany.

The tour around Lauenburg (40 km) is entirely dedicated to Elbe navigation. Here, visitors will encounter the old paddle steamer Kaiser Wilhelm, one of the oldest chamber locks in Europe, an old shipyard, and other testimonies that document the city’s significant maritime history.
