About This Route

Kona Jake, (mudguards and 28mm Gatorskin tyres) - I've had this ride on the agenda for a couple of years now and finally decided to give it a go. The ride is based on one I saw on the internet, so the idea isn't mine. It links all the major climbs of West Lancs, and some lesser climbs, into one ride. I'll change it next time to include Alma Hill and Cobbs Brow. Instead of going from Orrell to Shevington I could go up Alma Hill and down Bank Top to get to Long Heys la. Then on the way to Clieves Hill I could go up Cobbs Brow and across via Westhead and Scarth Hill. This would mean I could omit Scarth Hill on the way there going instead via Stanley Gate. This was a great ride in nice weather, once it warmed up. It was nowhere near as hard as I thought it would be, even though the majority of the climbing is done between miles 15 and 55. I was back home just after 2 'o' clock. Greetby Hill was in the list of Cols, but it's just a drag rather than a climb. There was no mention of Tower Hill as well. Scarth Hill isn't really a climb either, just a long drag. By my reckoning the 13 Cols are as follows: Ashurst from A5209 Tower Hill Shaley Brow Long Heys La. Parbold Hill Bank Top (Bank Brow) Crow Lane (via Farley La.) Stoney La. Sandersons La. Hunters Hill Appley Bridge Delph Park Ave. Clieves Hill Next time it'll be 15 cols including Alma Hill and Cobbs Brow. Arguably 17 if you include Scarth and Greetby Hills.
