Borzonasca-Rifugio Monte Aiona-Passo del Bocco-Borzonasca

MTB route clockwise, with an actual elevation gain of about 2100 meters.

From Borzonasca, you reach Prato Sopralacroce via a slight uphill asphalt road. You continue on asphalt up to the locality of I Crosi, then begins the long and demanding dirt road (all rideable) up to the Monte Aiona Refuge (where a stopover is planned).

The next day, from the Refuge, you proceed towards the Passo della Spingarda (1561 m), skirting Monte Aiona to the southeast. From its summit, on the clearest days, the panorama is boundless, from the sea to the highest peaks of the Ligurian Apennines, extending to the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines and the Alps in the northern background. The Aiona plateau, due to the particular nature of the rock, is a magnetic anomaly zone where the compass is unusable. You then exit the boundaries of the Aveto Park and also those of Ligurian regional limits, remaining in Emilian territory until Passo del Bocco. The ride proceeds with gentle ups and downs until Monte Crociato, then begins descending, encountering the Taro river and the first small clusters of houses in the localities of Grondana, I Massi, and Torre. After descending to 740 m, you start climbing again up to Passo del Ghiffi, returning to the ridge at about 1100 m and then following SP 49 to Passo del Bocco (956 m). You return to Liguria by descending to Borgonovo Ligure and then back to Borzonasca.
