mainly flat between Mertola and Lisabon. otherwise hilly. teep climbs to towns. These were always on top of hilltops! Had to stay in Mertola for three days because of virus. and received excellent medical treatment from portuguese doctor. Lost a day to rain in Beja which made it impossible to cycle, Good cheap campsites, especially the municipal sites in the towns of Beja, Evora. My companion was not as experienced as I, and although slowed down by companion, we completed round trip. Note she had a cheap bicycle from a supermarket, and it was less problem than mine. Dids take a wrong route near Setabul, cycling 30 kms back to startiong point. Sometimes it was very warm, over 25 Centigrade, even in early October. Found portuguese very friendly. Nice places to bathe in area around Sines. Not built up as Albufeira. Only one cycle bath along Algarve Coast. Used mainly B roads where possible. DO NOT TAKE CYCLE INTO LISSABON:
