In the Middle Ages, the pass - which was part of 'Drumul Prahovei', was traversed by a path. Since it bypassed the customs between the Principality of Transylvania and Wallachia, access to Brașov from here was prohibited until 1784 by the guards from Săcele.
In World War I, here during the Battle of the Passes in 1916, the 39th Corps (composed of the 51st Austro-Hungarian Division and the 187th German Division) under the command of General von Staabs, faced troops of the 3rd Romanian Division.
