Mer des Rochers à SAUVE ( Gard, Occitanie )

(good shoes needed) map I.G.N. no. 2840 OT "ALES" GPS access ROUTE: 43.939776 – 3.952292 (Sauve) Start from the old bridge (11th century) in the village of Sauve (parking opposite the old bridge). Follow the street of the Old Bridge which goes up in a bend. At the entrance of the church square, turn left to pass under the arcades, then straight ahead. The path runs between stone walls first on the left then on the right and passes under a vaulted door before following a crenellated wall. It then takes a right onto an old cobbled alley before reaching a flat area (beautiful view of the Castellas: a pile of rocks topped with ruins). At the next crossroads take the direction "les Escaliers", the path will cross several rock piles of various shapes: ruined castle, aven, cave ... At the end of this crossing you will pass through a stone portal, then follow the cobbled path (calade) towards "Aven". The path joins a drivable road, follow it left and a little further on again left at 90°. At the Aven crossroads (be careful, access to the aven is unsecured but it can be seen from above) follow the direction "Sauve" on the left. At the fork towards "plan Cabane" (group of Mazet 300m away - you can visit Mr Rieu's Mazet, with a picnic area) follow the direction Roquevaire. The path passes the remains of the castle of Roquevaire (private) and then joins the outbound path. Return to Sauve on the right. In the village, enjoy a walk (essential!) along the old streets to discover the ancient houses and refresh yourself in one of the cafes. Then return to the starting parking.
