From the sea lock at Katwijk-aan-Zee, via Valkenburg foot ferry, following the course of the Old Rhine, from its mouth, through Leiden and Utrecht and ending at Woerden railway station.
This is the first of the 19 described main routes from the cycle touring guide book, CYCLING THE RHINE ROUTE by John Powell.
The Rhine Route, as described in this book, begins at Katwijk aan Zee, following the old course of the Rhine River through the Netherlands, and ends at Basel in Switzerland. It was written with the average cyclist in mind and follows a route mostly close to the Rhine river. The degree of difficulty is easy to moderate.
There are a few minor changes to the original route, due to new roadworks, and the like.
The described route deviates from the Rhine Route at this point, to terminate at Woerden railway station. Route 02A starts from the railway station and returns to near this point, before continuing along the Rhine Route.
I think this is (or was) the Municipal Campsite. If so, then I have camped here and can recommend the facilities.
