By train from Chemnitz via Cranzahl to Kupferberg (seasonal service Chemnitz-Chomutov, Sat, Sun, April-October) - then off you go! Be sure to hike up to Kupferhübel with the chapel!
Between Schmalzgrube and Steinbach, the Wad path is very nice, but a bit bumpy. The road is an alternative.
