I am mostly retired, but write articles on taxation and teach periodically in a local law school in Seattle where my wife and I have our home. Over the years, we've spent considerable time in France doing self-contained bicycle touring.

We've been bicycling regularly since 1979 with our first self-contained tour in 1983 (from Houston to Austin and back in July...not so smart).

Our favorite destination has been France for the past three decades, but we've bicycled in the US, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, England, Spain, and Japan as well. In 2024, we did some touring in the spring in British Columbia, Canada, for the first time, and then returned to France in the autumn. And in 2025, we did some pedaling in Arizona and Texas in the winter, followed by a return to France in the autumn.

Seattle through Woodinville and Marymoor Park, around Lake Sammamish, and Return from Issaquah over Mercer Island

Cycling route in Seattle, Washington, United States

This is a great ride with a large portion of it on dedicated paved bicycle trails and roads with bike lanes. We highly recommend this ride. The ride passes park rest room facilities at Log Boom Park near Kenmore, at the Woodinville Wilmot Gateway Park, at Marymoor Park, and on Mercer Island at Aub…

Albi to Montauban

Cycling route in Albi, Occitanie, France

With the exception of the kilometers on D988 west toward Gaillac and and D18 which circles Gaillac on the north, all riding was on zero and low-traffic roads. D92 was a great way to avoid traffice getting into Montauban. And of course D13 is a great low-traffic way to depart from Albi to the west. …

2025-7-12 Seattle to Chehalis - STP Day 1

Cycling route in Seattle, Washington, United States

This was the first day of the 2025 annual Seattle to Portland Ride. As we had accommodations in Chehalis rather than in Centralia, we had to ride a little farther the first day. Note that due to local policemen keeping an eye on things, the ride was mostly on major roads in some areas where there …
