F44 Ghent-Mechelen Cycle Highway (proposed)

The F44 is the planned fast cycle link between Ghent (Gent) and Mechelen, tying two of Flanders' most historic city centers together on a flat, bike-friendly corridor. This collection pulls together the mapped sections that already exist plus likely connections between them.

Expect a mix of wide, separated cycleways and calm streets, with a few short gravel or track stretches and only the odd busy crossing. Most of it rides on asphalt or concrete; surfaces can change near worksites or in rural patches. Elevation is basically nil.

Because this is still a wenslijn (wish line), signage and continuity vary—use a map and be ready for small detours where gaps remain. It’s great for commuters, a city-to-city day ride, or just exploring Scheldt country at an easy pace.
