F2 Cycle Highway: Ghent - Groot-Bijgaarden (proposed)

The F2 is the cycle highway linking Ghent with Groot-Bijgaarden on the west side of Brussels. It’s designed as a fast, mostly flat corridor across Flanders—great for commuting or a steady weekend spin.

Heads-up: parts of this line are still proposed, so expect gaps, detours, and sections not fully built yet. Where it’s in place, you’ll find mostly paved surfaces (mainly asphalt and concrete) and a lot of dedicated cycleways and quiet streets, with almost no busy-road riding. Wayfinding varies by section, but look for F2 signage where available.

Ride it in chunks to explore the towns between Ghent and Brussels’ fringe, or go point-to-point and hop a train back—both Ghent and Groot-Bijgaarden have stations. Keep an eye out for works and local diversions, and use the map to thread together the open stretches. When complete, this will be one of the key long-distance bike routes in Flanders.
