Sentiero Italia Cycling (SI-C) – Abruzzo Routes

A collection of 3 cycling routes.

Overview

About this collection

A rugged slice of the SI-C across the Abruzzo Apennines. Expect long stretches on gravel and dirt tracks, rough paths, and a few road links—some of them busy—between wild, quiet sections. It’s bikepacking and MTB-friendly; gravel bikes with wide tires work if you’re comfortable when it gets chunky.

Surfaces are mostly unpaved, with ground and gravel dominant and only short paved bits. There are big climbs and descents across mountain terrain, so pace yourself and plan resupplies—villages can be spaced out. Signage varies; bring a reliable GPS and offline maps.

Best season is late spring to autumn; higher sections can hold snow or storms, and summer heat is real in the valleys. Pack layers, lights for the occasional busy road section, and extra water. Some pushing may be needed on steeper paths.

Use the segments as day rides or link them for a multi-day traverse. If you’re after quiet mountains, classic Abruzzo landscapes, and plenty of off-road, this collection delivers.
