Fünf-Flüsse-Radweg

A collection of 10 cycling routes.

Overview

About this collection

Classic circular tour in Bavaria along the Danube, Altmühl, Pegnitz, Naab, and Vils rivers – close to the water, varied, and easy to ride. The route combines a lot of asphalt and other paved paths with longer gravel sections; occasionally you will encounter some cobblestones or sand. Most of the time, you ride away from traffic on trails, bike paths, and quiet side roads, with only short stretches on busier roads.

Profile: mostly flat with gentle undulations – ideal for enjoying, suitable for touring bikes and bikepacking. Very narrow road tires can be used, but you should be comfortable with gravel sections.

Along the way, expect river bends, rock formations, and many charming towns with beer gardens and cafés. The route is well signed; towns and train stations are spaced reasonably, making stage planning easy. Best time: spring to autumn.

In brief: a relaxed multi-day tour through the Upper Palatinate and Franconia with plenty of water views, nature, and sufficient variety in terrain.
