Bikepacking from Taipei to Kaohsiung City

This cycling route takes you all the way from the vibrant city of Taipei, bustling with night markets and street food, to the laid-back harbor vibes of Kaohsiung City in the south. It’s a big one—almost 500 km—so definitely for riders looking for a challenge (and some serious bragging rights).

You’ll experience everything from mellow quiet roads to dedicated cycleways, and only a small portion of the journey shares space with busy traffic. The ride is mostly on smooth surfaces, though as you roll further south, watch for a few less-developed patches—nothing a good set of tires can’t handle! Over nearly 2,400 meters of climbing, you’ll pass through lush rice fields, gaze at mountain backdrops, and maybe sample some legendary local snacks.

Kick off under Taipei 101’s towering presence and finish next to the colorful Love River in Kaohsiung. This north-to-south epic is a perfect way to soak up the diverse landscapes—and hospitality—Taiwan has to offer!
