Cycling day trip from Santiago de Surco to Independencia

This cycling route takes you north from Santiago de Surco, a lively residential and commercial district in Lima, all the way up to Independencia, a bustling area known for its shopping centers and active urban vibe.

You’ll cover about 22 km—enough for a solid ride, but manageable even for intermediate cyclists. It’s mostly paved, and about two-thirds of your journey unfolds along dedicated cycleways, letting you cruise comfortably without too much traffic stress. Much of the rest uses quieter roads, so it’s a nice mix of city cycling without the headache of busy streets.

Along the way, you’ll ascend about 180 meters before a gentle descent into Independencia, topping out at roughly 155 meters of elevation—think gradual climbing rather than anything too steep.

Start in Surco’s leafy avenues, then ride north through a cross-section of Lima’s neighborhoods, catching glimpses of daily city life and maybe even a park or two.
