Ruta Cerro Canchales. Olivenza

Suitable route for those who want to step up from easy rides to a higher level. It does not have many technical difficulties, and physically you can push yourself as much as you want. The terrain ranges from road, trail, path, track, river crossing,... We start the route at the gas station at the entrance of Olivenza on the road to Valverde. It's about 5-7 km of road. When we reach the dam, just after crossing it, a path goes off to the right, a trail really. We follow the edge of the reservoir until we find the path. There are some intersections, so pay close attention to the GPS. We will start climbing on slightly cobbled terrain to reach a farm, so remember to leave the gates closed to prevent the livestock from escaping. On the descent, we will reach the small river that feeds the reservoir. We cross it and take the path to San Jorge. Here we take the road again until we get back to Olivenza. If you have good strength, you can try to attack the Sierra de Alor, just after leaving San Jorge, past the cemetery. It is a demanding climb but it has its reward at the top. You can return the same way or descend from behind, it is straightforward. It is a route where we must bring enough water as there are no water sources.
