About this route
In a high beech forest, a rock face approximately twenty meters high made of travertine rises, housing the realm of 'Kakus'. The giant 'Kakus' is said to have lived here once, and hence the limestone cave still bears his name today. The Kakus cave is a limestone cave with several subsidiary chambers. In this, the oldest documented settlement of humans in the Rhineland, remains of prehistoric tools and weapons, as well as bone remains of extinct species, were found during several excavations.
