About this route

This route can be done both by bike and on foot. It is an easy, low-difficulty journey suitable for almost all audiences. Our route starts from the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, which strikingly attracts attention for its unique octagonal shape. From there, we will have a magnificent view of another architecturally valuable element of this town: the clock tower. The first meters of our journey take us through the streets of the village, where we can admire the facades of the Señorial Houses on Carrera and Moralejo streets, the Paseo de las Coronadas, and the Plaza of the Church of the Discalced, with a beautifully decorated interior. We will leave the locality through Ancha street and the Camino del Pozo. After passing under the Madrid-Málaga railway line and going down a small slope, we will take the detour that goes left and runs parallel to the railway line. A little further on, the path makes a sharp right turn and continues until we reach a junction, at which we will take the right-hand path. A little less than a kilometer later, we will see the blue-green mass of the Laguna de Zoñar appear, which we will border for a while, and after climbing a small ramp, we will reach what was the road from Aguilar to Puente-Genil, where we will turn right again, for about seven hundred meters, until we discover the remains of what were the Zoñar Schools. In front of these remains, a small path rises, parallel to the stream, until we reach the new road of Puente-Genil, which we will cross beneath using a transverse drainage work in the shape of a square frame that we will see on the right. Once we have exited on the other side, we will climb back up to the path and turn left, parallel to the road, and after ascending a small slope, the path turns 90 degrees to the right and continues for about three hundred meters, making a new turn that we will ignore, to continue straight along the dirt path, which slightly rises among olive trees, until we reach the path of Cortijo Heredia, to turn left until we reach the road of Moriles, where we will turn right and, about two hundred meters later, to the left on the path of San Cayetano. At the next intersection, we will take the dirt branch that goes to the right, which will take us back to the road of Moriles, where we will turn left, to continue along the dirt path until we reach the Laguna del Rincón. As soon as we pass the lagoon, we will be attentive to take the path that goes left, and again to the left at the next fork, which leads us back to the pine path. At this point, we will turn right and immediately left to begin the ascent along the path of the Albarizas, which will offer us a wonderful panoramic view of the region, with the Subbetica in the background to the east and the one from Estepa to the south. From this point on, we begin the descent towards the village, being careful not to miss the road that connects to the right, and which will take us via the Camino de las Minas to the village through another interesting point in the locality: the Bodegas Toro Albalá, which holds a fabulous collection of pieces related to grape cultivation and wine production, and in addition, its visit is free. After touring some streets of the locality, we will re-enter the Plaza del Ayuntamiento via the Costón from the Calle Mercaderes and conclude our tour.
