Cycling day trip from Toblach to Calalzo di Cadore

This scenic ride takes you from Toblach (Dobbiaco), perched in the stunning Val Pusteria and known as the gateway to the Dolomites, to Calalzo di Cadore, a historic village at the southern edge of the dramatic mountains. Covering about 83 km, the route mixes well-maintained cycleways (over half the way!) with stretches on quiet roads, gravel, and a bit of track—so a gravel or trekking bike is ideal.

Expect a good workout: you’ll tackle almost 1,900 meters of climbing, reaching altitudes just shy of 2,000 meters. But the rewards are epic: breathtaking Dolomite panoramas, sparkling alpine lakes, and charming Tyrolean villages along the way. Much of the route follows the old railway line, now the famous “Ciclabile delle Dolomiti”—perfect for soaking up mountain views without too much car traffic.
