Šic na bic 2009: Kotač klizi unatoč krizi

The traditionally poor weather that also accompanied the fourth Novi Marof cycling event 'ŠIC NA BIC' did not deter the seventy or so cyclists who gathered on Saturday, June 20, 2009, at the Croatian Statehood Square, put on their jerseys, and set off on a new adventure called 'The wheel spins despite the crisis'. The gathering started at 8:00 AM as the guys from BK 'Maraton' checked and serviced the bikes. At 10:00 AM, the mayor of Novi Marof, Mr. Darko Hrenić, wished the cyclists a safe journey and gave the start signal. The peloton passed through Madžarevo and Topličica towards Donji Makojišće and Paka, arriving after 45 minutes of easy riding in Breznički Hum. Welcoming hosts greeted us with refreshments, and then we climbed through the greenery of the Zagorje hills towards Hrašćina. The weather was ideal until Hrašćina, with heavy clouds, almost no wind, and no rainfall. However, on the descent to Budinščina, rain began to threaten, so we hurried to Podrute where we took shelter under the 'Ivanjske veselice' tent. With prize games and a few sausages, the atmosphere was excellent, and the rain was soon forgotten. Since the weather was not joking around, many vans from Marof rushed to pick up the soaked cyclists and bring them back to town. Despite everything, there were still brave souls who, despite the downpour, decided to cover the last kilometers and complete the fourth Novi Marof cycling event. The cycling event is traditionally held under the general sponsorship of the City of Novi Marof, and this year also the municipalities along the route supported the event: Breznički Hum, Budinščina, and Hrašćina. The cyclists were cared for by the young first aid team from the city's Red Cross, traffic safety was ensured by the police station "Novi Marof" who led and followed the peloton, while members of the 'Maraton' cycling club provided route safety. Our sponsors: Knauf insulation, Huni bike shop, Plino servis 'Valjak', Comet, Hajduk plastic packaging, 'Šantek' plastic processing, Mardex, and Jeklo tahna ting. More than 20 volunteers and MZM members worked tirelessly to make this cycling event attractive, fun, maximally accessible to all ages, well secured, and a source of pride for Novi Marof. Through this, MZM thanks and congratulates all participants for their kilometers ridden under the slogan 'the wheel spins despite the crisis'.
